Import from File

You are able to import structures from a wide variety of file formats.
Note: Use this function to import structures from file formats that support multiple structures. To import individual structures use the Add/Edit structure function or the Open Structure function.
The following file formats can be imported:

Import file works only if there is an active workbook. Importing is only supported to empty worksheets.
| 1. | Click on the Import from File ribbon button (in case of Office 2007 and 2010) or select the Import from File JChem menu item (in case of Office 2003) to open the Import File form. |


It opens up the Import File wizard:

| 2. | Click to open the Open File Dialog. |
| 3. | Select the file you want to import. It is indicated if the format of the selected file cannot be recognized by the system (red exclamation mark with tooltip). |
| 4. | You are allowed to enter the file name with path manually into the File to Import field of the Import File form as well. It is indicated if the specified file does not exists (red exclamation mark with tooltip). |
| 5. | Skip Atom Values: It is possible to import structures from the SD files without the atom numbers by selecting this check-box. |
| 6. | Specify the destination workbook and worksheet for the import. |
| o | Select an existing workbook from the combo box. The active workbook is selected by default. |
| o | Select an existing worksheet from the combo box for the import. The active worksheet is selected by default. |
| o | It is also possible to create a new worksheet for the import and type in its name. It is indicated if the entered sheet name already exists or blank or contains not allowed characters (red exclamation mark with tooltip). |
| o | Rename Target Worksheet. It is possible to rename the target worksheet to the name of the imported file by selecting the check-box. The target worksheet won't be renamed if the name of the imported file contains any invalid characters, which are not allowed in sheet names (e.g.: square brackets) even if the check-box is selected. The default state of the check-box can be specified in the Options form. |

| o | It is possible to import structures with their properties to a worksheet, which is not empty. The new structures and data can be appended to the existing ones (Append radio button) or the existing structures and data can be overwritten by the imported ones (Overwrite radio button). |
| o | Data Placement: It is possible to specify a starting cell for the import process. The column and row number can be specified or the active cell can be selected as starting cell. |
| o | Data Placement|Create Header: It is possible to import the structures and their data with or without headers by selecting/unselecting the Create Header check-box. The check-box is selected by default. |
| o | Data Placement|Transpose: It is possible to import the structures and their data into columns instead of rows by selecting the Transpose check-box. The check-box is unselected by default. |
| 8. | If the file to import contains additional fields, you can specify which properties to import on the Columns tab, data without structures can be imported as well. There is no mandatory field, but at least one column should be selected. |

| 9. | Clicking on the Import button starts the import process. The progress is displayed on the Progress tab. |

| 10. | The import process can be canceled by clicking on the Stop button. |
| 11. | When the process is finished, the Stop button is replaced by the Close button. The errors encountered are listed on the Progress tab. |

| 12. | Clicking Close button closes the Import File wizard. |
| 13. | The imported structures and data are displayed on the selected worksheet. |
