Managing Connections

Connection information to databases are managed here.

Note:

Connection information is stored in an XML file under the default local user folder.

Windows XP: Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\ChemAxon\JChem for Excel\Connections.xml

Windows Vista: Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\ChemAxon\JChem for Excel\Connections.xml

 

Adding a new TNS Names based connection

1.Click on the Import from Database ribbon button (in case of Office 2007 and 2010) or select the Import from Database JChem menu item (in case of Office 2003) to open the Import from Database form.

2.Click on the Add Connection icon on the toolbar or right click the Connections root node and select Add Connection from the context menu.

3.Select the TNS connection type radio button.
4.Fill the Connection Name with anything you prefer.
5.Fill User Name, Password.
6.Fill the network alias of the Oracle database, specified in the TNSNAMES file.
7.Click OK to save the connection info.

8.The new connection is displayed as a new node in the Connections tree-view.

Adding a new Basic connection

1.Click on the Add Connection icon on the toolbar or right click the Connections root node and select Add Connection from the context menu.

2.Select the Basic connection type radio button.
3.Fill the Connection Name with anything you prefer.
4.Fill User Name, Password.
5.Fill the host name or IP address where the Oracle database can be found.
6.Fill the port number.
7.Fill the SID of the Oracle database, specified in the TNSNAMES file.
8.Click OK to save the connection.

9.The new connection is displayed as a new node in the Connections tree-view.

Adding a new MySQL connection

1.Click on the Add Connection icon on the toolbar or right click the Connections root node and select Add Connection from the context menu.
2.Select the MySQL tab on the Manage Connections form.
3.Fill the Connection Name with anything you prefer.
4.Fill User Name, Password.
5.Fill the host name or IP address where the MySQL database can be found.
6.Fill the port number.
7.Fill the database name of the MySQL database.
8.Click OK to save the connection.

Editing a connection

1.Right click the connection in the tree and select Edit Connection from the context menu.
2.The connection information are displayed on the Manage Connection form. Modify the connection information.
3.Click OK to save the changes.

4.The modified connection name is displayed on the Import from Database form.

Deleting a connection

1.Right click the connection in the tree and select Delete Connection from the context menu.

2.Click Ok on the confirmation dialog to delete the selected connection.
3.The deleted connection is hidden from the Import from Database form.
