Configuration using Central Administration
- Open the SharePoint 2010 Central Administration and navigate to System Settings | Manage services on server
- If you have multiple SharePoint Servers joined in same Farm, please select the SharePoint Server from your Farm where you want to use JChem for SharePoint Services. You have to start the JChem Service on at least one SharePoint Server within the Farm.

- Navigate to Application Management | Manage Service Applications.
- Select Service Applications tab in the Ribbon and click the New button. Select JChem Service.
- Enter the desired name for the new service application (e.g. JChem).
- Enter a name for the new application pool (or select an existing one if you desire).
- Leave Create a proxy for this service application?checked and click OK.
- Click the name of the previously created service application or select the service application and click the Manage button from the Ribbon.
- In Manage JChem Service Application page click Manage Database. JChem for SharePoint requires a custom database for internal settings and processing, although it does not store on its own sensitive chemical data.

- Enter the database server name and the database name. The database server can differ from the default server used for SharePoint. If the database name does not already exist on the server, a new database will be created with the initial schema. If you choose an existing database name, in this case its schema will be upgraded to accommodate the JChem for SharePoint functionality. This later scenario is intended mostly for future upgrade scenarios.
- Click OK.
