Discussion Board

The The JChem Rich Text Editor Extension for Discussion Board extends SharePoint default Discussion Board list and allows users to create discussions with structures. The Discussion Board also allows replies with structures to be added to each.

 

 

How to create a discussion board with structures

 

Step 1: Create a new discussion board with a specified name.

Step 2: Select the following option:

  • Display this discussion board on the Quick Launch: Yes

 

Step 3: Save the new discussion board. The new discussion board is created.

Step 4: Go back to the above created discussion board.

 

 

How to create a discussion item with structures

 

Step 5: Create a new discussion item on your new discussion board.

Step 6: Specify a subject for the new discussion item.

Step 7: Enter a body text for the new post item.

Step 8: Position the cursor somewhere in the Body field of the New Item page and click on the: "Editing Tools|Insert|Insert Molecule" toolbar button.

The integrated structure editor (Marvin Applet) is started.

 

Step 9: Draw a structure and close the structure editor window by OK button.The specified structure is displayed in the Body text field.

Step 10: Save the new discussion item. The new discussion item is created.

Step 11: Change to the Flat view by clicking on the subject of the above created discussion item. The subject, the specified body text and structure of the discussion item are displayed on the screen.

How to modify an existing discussion item with structures

 

Step 12: Open the above created discussion item for edition.

Step 13: Position the cursor somewhere in the Body field and click on the: "Editing Tools|Insert|Insert Molecule" toolbar button.

The integrated structure editor (Marvin Applet) is started.

Step 14: Draw a second structure and close the structure editor window by OK button. The specified structure is displayed in the Body text field. Currently there are two structures in the Body text field.

Step 15: Select the first structure in the Body text field.

Step 16: Click on the: "Editing Tools|Insert|Insert Molecule" toolbar button. The integrated structure editor is opened with the selected structure.

Step 17: Modify the structure and close the structure editor window by OK button. The modified structure is displayed in the Body text field.

Step 18: Save the modifications of the discussion item.

Step 19: Change to the Flat view by clicking on the subject of the above created discussion item.

The updated discussion item with the modified structure and with the newly added structure is displayed on the screen.

How to reply to a discussion item with structures

 

Step 20: Click on the Reply button (the Reply button is available only in Flat view).You can see the body text with the structures of the discussion item on the opened page.

Step 21: Enter a text into the Body text field above the separating line.

Step 22: Position the cursor right after the newly entered text and click on the: "Editing Tools|Insert|Insert Molecule" toolbar button. The integrated structure editor (Marvin Applet) is started.

Step 23: Draw a structure and close the structure editor window by OK button.The specified structure is displayed in the Body text field.

Step 24: Save the new reply item. The new reply item with the specified structure is displayed below the discussion item in the flat view.

Step 25: Click on the "Show Quoted Message" link below the new reply item. The body text and structures of the original discussion item are displayed below the reply item.
